Diagnosis offers medical students the chance to step into a clinician’s role, analyzing complex cases alongside expert physicians. It builds critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and encourages collaboration and discussion.

Diagnosis is a unique interactive scientific event that brings medical students face-to-face with the real challenges of clinical reasoning. Originally launched in 2020 as a series of online videos exploring complex cases step by step, the concept has now evolved into a live experience. Participants have the opportunity to discuss and analyze cases in real time alongside experienced physicians and peers from around the world.

Why participate?

Diagnosis is not just a competition, it is an opportunity to step into the role of a young clinician. Selected students are challenged to:

  • apply their theoretical knowledge in a clinical setting
  • showcase analytical and critical thinking skills
  • engage in discussions about differential diagnoses, management strategies, and key lessons learned

Meanwhile, the audience members benefit from observing real-time reasoning, asking questions, and interacting directly with experts and peers.

Recognition & Awards

Being selected to present at Diagnosis is a mark of distinction:

  • Only 7 students worldwide will be chosen – one per specialty
  • Each winner will be granted a GOLD Package for IMSCB 9 (2025 edition)
  • During the Closing Ceremony, they will also receive a special certificate recognizing their achievement.

Beyond the awards, the real prize is the invaluable educational experience – bridging medical school theory with the realities of patient care.

Timeline

To ensure fairness and give all participants enough time to prepare, the Diagnosis application process follows a well-structured timeline. From the opening of submissions to the reveal of the final programme, every step is designed to keep students informed and engaged. Please keep the following key dates in mind:

  • Submissions open: September 18th, 2025
  • Deadline for case reports: October 22nd, 2025 (23:59 GMT+2)
  • Final results announced: October 26th, 2025 (via email)
  • Full Diagnosis schedule published: November 11th, 2025, together with the Scientific Programme
